Press Release 11 of 2022: Health Squared Medical Scheme placed under provisional curatorship

The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) hereby announces that Health Squared Medical Scheme has been placed under provisional curatorship effective from Thursday, 8 September 2022. The Honourable Judge Crutchfield agreed to place Health Squared Medical Scheme under provisional curatorship following CMS application.

The CMS brought the curatorship application to examine the actual financial position of the scheme and oversee the liquidation process. The Court agreed with CMS that a curator is a suitable remedy to address the concerns raised by CMS. The CMS has a statutory duty to uphold the rights and interests of beneficiaries.

The Curator’s role and mandate are to, amongst others, restore overall effective governance of the scheme, whilst ensuring continued servicing of members and beneficiaries of the scheme. Mr Seoloane is expected to take complete control of the scheme and attend to all complaints and queries from concerned beneficiaries seeking assistance with their membership. He has extensive experience and knowledge of the healthcare industry, spanning over 20 years.

Upon receiving the Court order, the CMS liaised with the appointed curator to establish communication channels between the members and all relevant stakeholders.
