Between February and May this year, health care workers were offered a dose of the Janssen® (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine under the Sisonke Early Access Programme which was conducted as a Phase 3B implementation study.
This month, health care workers who received this vaccination as part of the Sisonke programme will be offered a booster dose of the Janssen® (J&J) vaccine as part of Sisonke 2 which is also a Phase 3B implementation study. The vaccines will be administered in line with current vaccine roll-out guidelines and practices.
The booster doses will be administered at selected public and private vaccination sites with outcomes being monitored by the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). The Sisonke 2 programme began on 10 November, and the list of accredited sites can be accessed here.
The administration fee for vaccination of recipients who are medical scheme members will be claimed from their schemes at a rate of R80.50 (R70 plus VAT).
