World AIDS Day 2023

In observance of World AIDS Day on December 1st, we call attention to HIV/AIDS, honour the lives of those who have died from the disease, and support the lives of those who are living with it.

Educating people about HIV transmission, prevention methods, diagnosis, and treatment options remains a critical element of preventing new infections. World AIDS Day provides a great opportunity to disseminate accurate information about the disease. It encourages individuals to get tested, know their HIV status, and access appropriate healthcare services.

Benefits of knowing one’s HIV status:

Ability to plan for the future such as making decisions about having children, learning how to protect self and others by using condoms, ability to access care and support including treatment to prevent opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis (TB).

What is covered under Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMB) level of care?

HIV is a PMB condition. All medical schemes are required by law to pay for the diagnosis, treatment and care costs of the condition in full.

By staying informed, getting tested, and creating awareness in our communities, we can make a significant difference. Together, we can pave the way towards an AIDS-free world.
