Patient Empowerment is at the heart of healthcare
Patient Experience Survey on people living with diabetes conducted by the CMS’s Policy Research and Monitoring Division (PRMD) in 2019 and subsequently, in 2020, highlights a need for a ‘new norm’ of putting patients at the heart of disease management.
According to Senior Policy Research Analyst at CMS, Phakamile Nkomo, achieving this would mean a positive move from the so-called traditional “acute care models” to a patient-centred approach. “Ultimately, this could lead to cost-effectiveness in South African healthcare purchasing”, he added.
