This training programme is designed to provide newly appointed brokers with a comprehensive overview of the medical schemes industry, including regulatory requirements, ethical considerations, and best practices for serving medical scheme members effectively. Participants will gain a solid foundation in key concepts and tools essential for success in their roles as brokers.

The Council for Medical Schemes’ NQF level 8 Trustee Development Programme in collaboration with GIBS is a premium training opportunity tailored for seasoned trustees and medical scheme professionals who are committed to elevating their leadership competence. Trustee Induction Training (Closed Schemes)

Trustee Induction Training (Open Schemes)

These sessions will provide guidance to newly appointed members of the Board of Trustees (BoTs) of open medical schemes on the following topics:
- Introduction to the Medical Schemes Act
- Compliance with the Medical Schemes Act
- Accreditation of Brokers and Healthcare Providers
- Overview of Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs)
- Complaints and Adjudication Procedures
- Financial soundness of Medical Schemes
These sessions aim to help the BoT members understand their roles and responsibilities under the Medical Schemes Act. The sessions will cover important topics such as compliance, accreditation, and financial soundness of medical schemes. Additionally, members will be briefed on the process of complaints and adjudication procedures.
The Induction Programmes for Trustees will be used as a pre-requisite to register for the Advanced Leadership Programme for Trustees offered by the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in collaboration with the CMS. The Advanced Leadership Programme for Trustees will commence in May 2024.
