Call for applications: Specialist Advisory Panel

The Council for Medical Schemes wishes to invite Specialists and other Health Professionals to apply to be listed on its Expert/Specialist Advisory Panel.

The Panel is being established primarily to support the following activities:

•             Revision of the Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs)

•             Development of guidelines for the Prescribed Minimum Benefits

•             Provide clinical opinions on an ad-hoc basis to adjudicate on complaints lodged

•             Provide ad-hoc advice on specific technical and policy issues relevant to the functioning of Council

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE BASE  

South African Citizens, or Permanent residents with suitable knowledge, skills, and 6 years or more practical work experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Allied Healthcare (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Biokinetists, Speech Therapy)

Recommendations:

  • Proven career related achievements in one or more of the abovementioned fields; and/or
  • International and/or local experience and/or recognition
  • Expertise in literature reviews, research methodologies and academic writing
  • Research, policy input and writing, and working in the academic world preferred
  • Published articles in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and other related work
  • Registration with relevant health bodies such as Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Working knowledge of the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998 and Regulations
  • Working knowledge of Clinical Coding systems

Appointed members would be expected to:

  • Agree to comply with the CMS code of good practice pertaining to the declaration of interest and confidentiality policies.
  • Act in accordance with the highest professional and ethical standard at all times.
  • Avail themselves for meetings, punctually and for the whole of the scheduled meeting time.
  • Operate as part of a multi-disciplinary groups
  • Contribute to debates in an informed and rational way.
  • Take decisions solely in the interest of the public.
  • Respect and value each member’s perspective and contribution.
  • Facilitate the work of the Committees through the co-ordination of peer reviewed technical appraisals.
  • Meet submission deadlines for inputs and reports
