Circular 61 of 2022: CMS Development Programme for Trustees

The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS), in partnership with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) is proud to offer the Trustee Development Programme for members of the Board of Trustees of medical schemes (BoTs). The programme will be launched on Thursday, 1 December 2022 at the GIBS Illovo Campus, 26 Melville Rd, Illovo, Johannesburg.

Only delegates who have attended the CMS Induction Training for Trustees, the CMS Accredited Skills Programme or equivalent, will be eligible to enrol for the Trustee Development Programme. Attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

COST:

R21 426.00 per delegate

DATES:

  • 01 – 02 December 2022: Launch & Module 1
  • 26 – 27 January 2023: Module 2
  • 23 – 24 February 2023: Module 3

The programme objectives are:

  • To develop an ethical Board of Trustees equipped to improve the management and governance of medical schemes.
  • To evaluate and navigate the impact of COVID-19 on the medical scheme industry.
  • To develop enhanced knowledge and appreciation for the South African healthcare landscape and medical scheme industry.
  • To enhance existing understanding of the Medical Schemes Act (131 of 1998) and accompanying regulations, thereby improving compliance with the Medical Schemes Act by medical schemes.
  • To reinforce the role, functions, and responsibilities of Board of Trustees members.
  • To develop the ability of Board of Trustees members to interpret financial statements.
