Circular 15 of 2022: Request for HIV, TB and STI data for the South African National Aids Council (SANAC)
A private sector initiative to facilitate the collection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) data from registered medical schemes in South Africa was established between the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) and approved by the National Department of Health (NDoH) in 2016.
On an annual and semi-annual basis, private-sector treatment data is reported on the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) online reporting tool.
In line with the above initiative, medical schemes, administrators, and managed care organisations are hereby requested to submit HIV, TB and STI indicators as defined in the data collection tool document attached to this circular. The data officers responsible for the submission of the utilisation data are accustomed to this process and are best placed to compile and submit the data to the CMS.
The private sector data collection initiative aims to ensure inclusivity and meaningful contribution to South Africa’s epidemic response. In addition to providing vital information for the national HIV estimates, data collection by the private sector will give a clearer view of the national response to HIV, TB and STIs.
Schemes, administrators and managed care organisations are requested to adjust their systems to reflect the changes in the Indicator Reference Sheet as summarised in the table below.
Indicator/Field | Changes |
Number of beneficiaries on the HIV DMP with ART possession ratio of at least 75% at the end of the reporting period. | New Indicator |
Number of lives active and on the DMP at the end of the period with viral load results submitted in the past 12 months. | New Indicator |
Year of submission | Field changed from Year of submission to YearOfSpec |
Principal Officers are hereby requested to facilitate submitting the required data by no later than 4 March 2022 for the 1 January to 31 December 2021 reporting period (reporting period is based on the date of service).
