Sustainable Reform of PMB’s
The debate around Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) has resurfaced. On 31 July 2026, Dr Katlego Mothudi, Managing Director of the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), published an opinion piece in Spotlight identifying weaknesses in the current PMB framework and arguing that revising the compulsory package is the first practical step towards affordable medical scheme cover. The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) has developed a discussion document setting out its analysis of the issues raised.
