Circular 32 of 2023: Request for HIV, TB and STI data for the South African National Aids Council (SANAC)
In 2016, a collaborative effort involving the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS), and the National Department of Health (NDoH) was established to create a private-sector initiative aimed at facilitating the gathering of data related to HIV, TB, and STIs from registered medical schemes within South Africa. This initiative mandates that medical schemes, administrators, and managed care organizations provide annual and semi-annual private-sector treatment data through the online reporting tool of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS). Detailed guidelines for submitting HIV, TB, and STI indicators are outlined in the accompanying document linked to this circular.
The objective behind this data collection initiative in the private sector is to promote inclusivity and ensure a meaningful contribution to South Africa’s efforts to combat the HIV, TB, and STI epidemics. Collecting data from the private sector aims to enhance our comprehension of the national response to HIV, TB, and STIs, while also supplying critical information for national HIV estimates. The data officers responsible for submitting the utilization data are conversant with this procedure and are best suited to collect and submit the data to the CMS.
Principal Officers are urged to assist in the submission of the required data by no later than 22 September 2023 for the reporting period of 1 January to 30 June 2023. (The reporting period is based on the date of service). No changes have been made to the highlighted data specification document.
