Council for Medical Schemes Mourns the Passing of Dr Zanele Bikitsha

The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Zanele Bikitsha, National Vice-Chairperson of the South African Medical Association (SAMA).

Dr Bikitsha served the medical profession with distinction and was widely respected for her considered leadership, professional integrity and commitment to strengthening healthcare in South Africa. As National Vice-Chairperson of SAMA, she played an important role in advancing the interests of medical practitioners while contributing to dialogue on issues affecting the health sector.

The CMS had the privilege of engaging with Dr Bikitsha through its ongoing relationship with SAMA on matters of shared importance to the healthcare sector. Her constructive approach and willingness to work across institutions reflected a genuine commitment to improving healthcare for the benefit of all South Africans.

Chairperson of the Council, Dr Thandi Mabeba, said “Dr Bikitsha’s passing is a significant loss to the medical profession and to the broader healthcare community. She will be remembered for her service, her principled leadership and the respect with which she engaged colleagues and stakeholders across the sector.”

Dr Musa Gumede, Chief Executive and Registrar, added CMS’ sincere condolences to Dr Bikitsha’s family, friends, colleagues and the South African Medical Association during this difficult time. “We honour her contribution to the profession and the positive impact she made through her leadership and service,” continued Dr Gumede.
